How to get services in Kansas
Most long-term supports are paid for by Medicaid, often through a waiver program. Start with Medicaid, then get on the program that fits. Many programs have a waiting list, so apply early.
Start here KanCare (Kansas Medicaid) · Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) runs eligibility; KDADS runs long-term care waivers
Apply online (opens in a new tab) · Call (800) 792-4884 · KanCare Clearinghouse (mail or fax); local help from your ADRC
No. Kansas uses its own application, so people who get SSI should still apply for KanCare.
Medicaid for the elderly and people with disabilities covers people 65 and older or with a disability who meet income and asset limits. A spenddown (medically needy) option helps people with higher income once medical bills reach a set amount.
For children: None. Kansas does not offer a TEFRA or Katie Beckett option; children with disabilities may use the Autism, Technology Assisted, SED or I/DD waivers.
If you work: Working Healthy: lets working people with disabilities keep KanCare, with a premium for some people.
Steps
- Apply online at the KanCare website, or call the KanCare Clearinghouse.
- Use the elderly and disabled application if you have a disability or are 65 or older.
- Send proof of income, assets and disability.
- Answer any requests from the Clearinghouse.
- When approved, choose one of the KanCare health plans.
