Yes. Iowa gives Medicaid to people who get SSI without a separate application.
Medicaid for people who are 65 or older, blind, or have a disability covers people with low income and assets. Iowa also has a Medically Needy program for people with high medical bills.
For children: None. Iowa has no TEFRA or Katie Beckett option; children with disabilities may apply for the Health and Disability or Children's Mental Health waivers, which use the child's income.
If you work: Medicaid for Employed People with Disabilities (MEPD): lets working people with disabilities keep Medicaid, with a premium for some people.
Steps
- Apply online, by phone at 1-855-889-7985, or with a paper form from your local HHS office.
- If you want a waiver, mark the waiver you want in Appendix A of the application.
- Return the form to HHS by mail, email, fax or in person.
