How to get services in Idaho
Most long-term supports are paid for by Medicaid, often through a waiver program. Start with Medicaid, then get on the program that fits. Many programs have a waiting list, so apply early.
Start here Idaho Medicaid · Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (DHW)
Apply online (opens in a new tab) · Call (877) 456-1233 · Your closest DHW field office
No. Idaho uses its own application, so people who get SSI must still apply for Idaho Medicaid with DHW.
Medicaid for the Aged, Blind and Disabled covers people with a disability or age 65 and older who meet income and resource limits. People who need nursing home or home and community care can qualify at a higher income limit after a Level of Care Determination, and may pay a share of cost.
For children: Katie Beckett Program. Medicaid for children with long-term disabilities or complex medical needs who live at home and would qualify for institutional care, even if family income is too high for regular Medicaid. A premium based on family income may apply. Apply for Medicaid and Katie Beckett at the same time.
If you work: Medicaid for Workers with Disabilities (MWD): health coverage for people with disabilities who work, with a premium based on income.
Steps
- Apply online at idalink, or call 877-456-1233.
- You can also apply by email, fax, mail or at a DHW field office.
- If you need home care or long-term care, ask for a Level of Care Determination.
- Answer any requests from DHW.
- Read your notice to learn if you have a share of cost.
