Yes. People in Florida who get SSI get Medicaid automatically through the Social Security Administration and do not need a separate ACCESS Florida application unless they need nursing home or waiver services.
SSI-Related Medicaid covers people who are 65 or older or have a disability and have low income and assets. The Medically Needy program helps people whose income is too high, once their medical bills reach a set amount (share of cost).
For children: None. Florida does not offer a TEFRA or Katie Beckett option; children with complex medical needs may use the Model Waiver or other Medicaid programs.
If you work: Working People with Disabilities (WPwD): lets people enrolled in a home and community-based services waiver keep Medicaid while they work and earn more.
Steps
- Go to the ACCESS Florida website and choose Apply for Benefits.
- Answer all questions. If you need home care or nursing home care, check the box for HCBS/Waivers or Nursing Home.
- Upload or mail proof of identity, income and assets.
- Answer any letters from DCF by the due date.
- Watch for your notice. If approved, choose a health plan when you are asked.
